Nokia connects with Windows Phone OS (7.5 here) and squeezed out its two promising phones in December 2011, hitting the racks now – Lumia 800 and Lumia 701. Urbane and unfussy look in company with the classy pinch of the black/white.

Loaded with insigniating colors, viewing videos and text is splendid. Nevertheless this came after an elongated wait but Lumia 800 apparently seems to be boxed up well; when weighed against Lumia 701 on design and performance.

• The Built in speaker is not loud enough. Though the headphones’ experience is good but once out it is hardly audible.
• A tab priced @ 35,000 INR (750$) is too much  – Better are tabs available in 15k.
• Side angle view is like a mirror.
• 32GB is not that enough.
• Not everyone is an artist and I don’t use tabs/phones to show my artistic skills.

A good product introduced in the market. But this 5.3 launcher says that you can type a SMS with the same hand that is holding the phone. Congrats Samsung for that. A 16-year would be able to?

If you know what Aakash tablet is and you desire to buy that and are waiting in the queue, among the 14lakhs orders which were placed in first 15days of online sale. Where Datawind promises to deliver it within seven days. Is it possible?

But hold on before you order that, read this. By spending $10 more you get the Tablet-cum-Phone – the UBISLATE 7+ (a.k.a Aakash 2).

Though this is not in the market, you can pre-order. The pre-order started last month and the product is ready to be out now, by the end of January’12.

The Indian government launched the $35 (Rs. 1,700) tablet called Aakash, which Union minister Kapil Sibal called a “tablet for the poor.”

DataWind in association with IIT – Rajasthan has launched the world’s cheapest Android. Kapil Sibal – person who is both the IT and Education minister – targets this cheap system to the education sector.

Aakash needs to get loads of apps all related to education sector.

To make this thing work Kapil Sibal would have to give this to every individual related to the education sector – from students, to staff and to teachers and this way definitely India would be digitally literate overnight.

For those unaware about NFC?

Near field communication, or NFC is a set of short-range wireless connectivity using the magnectic field induction for communication when touched together or brought within a certain distance field.

Why this excitement about NFC?

NFC uses the technology close to the one used in smartcards used while traveling in metros OR the punch cards seen at your office. Plethora of opportunities have been opened for new ventures to develop software/hardware to be used at the seller’s edge with the adoption of NFC technology.

Comparing NFC with other Wireless technologies prevailing the industry:

• Against wireless communication technology such as Bluetooth or Wi-Fi; NFC does not require users to enter the processing information manually.
• NFC is preferred for payment methods (in ATM) over other communication technology due to its fast & automatic connections.
• With the advantage of only working at very short distance, the technology empowers the applications avoid involvement of fraudulent connections and external interference.
• Must be wondering why NFC over Bluetooth: Even though Bluetooth and NFC uses short range frequency, the latter consumes much less power and does not require pairing.

In the end, with the introduction of NFC in Wireless world there are lots of challenges and opportunities spotted to be worked upon that has always brought the best out of entrepreneurs around.

Giving a vivid display of the whole thing is not possible but we can try that at least next time when you buy a PC/Laptop you won’t have stand dumb while the salesman keeps speaking words like LED, LCD, CRT, NED and TFT.

Well, what are they?

Cathode Ray Tube (CRT), the technology used in most televisions and computer display screens. A CRT works by moving an electron beam back and forth across the back of the screen. Each time the beam makes a pass across the screen, it lights up phosphor dots on the inside of the glass tube, thereby illuminating the active portions of the screen. By drawing many such lines from the top to the bottom of the screen, it creates an entire screen full of images.

Nano Emissive Display (NED) is the technology that enables manufacturers to design large flat panel displays that exceed the image quality characteristics of plasma and LCD screens at a lower cost. Instead of using either one cathode ray tube (CRT) or millions of tiny LED lights to project a video image, NED uses millions of accelerated electrons charged by just 5 to 10 volts of electricity, compared with 5,000 volts for large-screen, high-definition LCDs. The electrons shoot toward a phosphor plate, creating the moving image. This technique requires less voltage than a CRT. These can be found as large screens in shows and functions which are used as background on the stage.

Thin Film Transistor (TFT), a type of LCD flat-panel display screen, in which each pixel is controlled by from one to four transistors. The TFT technology provides the best resolution of all the flat-panel techniques, but it is also the most expensive. TFT screens are sometimes called active-matrix LCDs.

Basic difference between LCDs and LEDs:

Liquid Crystal Display (LCD): LCD displays utilize two sheets of polarizing material with a liquid crystal solution between them. An electric current passed through the liquid causes the crystals to align so that light cannot pass through them. Each crystal, therefore, is like a shutter, either allowing light to pass through or blocking the light. This shutter along with the others provides the color which you want.

Light Emitting Diode (LED), an electronic device that lights up when electricity is passed through it. LEDs are usually red. They are good for displaying images because they can be relatively small, and they do not burn out. However, they require more power than LCDs. It consists of tiny bulbs which emit light and these bulbs give a more realistic display as compared to others. It is more power consuming. Local dimming LED display consumes more power than LCD display. Therefore, the tradeoff seems to be between economizing your energy bill and better picture quality. But the edge lit LED displays use less power than an LCD of the same size. Sony, Samsung and Philips have launched LED display models. Similar to LCD monitors, LED screens do not have screen burn-in problem, and are therefore, suitable for computer use.

Later, just before it finally recovered:

This was the longest downtime that I have ever experienced with facebook, it was down in India for over 30 minutes.

There are quite a few things that come to my mind in this distressed situation:

• Is the downtime due to server overload or outrage?
• Has facebook neared it’s capacity with 500 million user?
• Are they making another revamp (for good)
• Has Google bought facebook?
• Wonder how this might have affected teenagers’ suicide rate.
• As Facebook is down, would Twitter be able to handle the extra load (do not worry about MySpace, no one goes there)
• Next day headlines could be, valuation of Facebook falls from 33,000,000,000 USD to 33,000,000 USD

What is Internet?

The Internet is a network of connected computers. No company owns the internet. It is a cooperative effort governed by a system of standards and rules. The  purpose of connecting computers together, of course, is to share information between the networks. There are many ways information can he passed between computers, including email, file transfer (FTP), and many more specialized modes upon which the Internet is built. These standardized methods for transferring data or document over a network are known as protocols.

What is World Wide Web?

The World Wide Web (aka Web) is just one of the ways information can be disseminated over the Internet. It is unique in that it allows documents to be linked to one another using hypertext links— thus forming a huge “web” of connected information. The Web uses a protocol called HTTP (HyperText Transfer Protocol) to transmit data. If you’ve spent any time using the Web, that acronym should look familiar because it is the first four letters of nearly all website addresses. So the Web is only a portion of the Internet, albeit a large portion therefore;

The Internet and Web are two separate but related things which shouldn’t be confused.
